A plane with a built-in telescope has taken its first in-flight images -but the beleaguered project is no stranger to turbulence.rnThe Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) is a Boeing 747 jet modified to carry a telescope built by the German space agency. Last week, SOFIA took its first images of the night sky, including a shot of Jupiter that would be impossible to take with a telescope on the ground.
