In this role, you will undertake the sequence assembly and lead the sequence integration efforts for the barley (Hordeum vulgare) sequencing project. TGAC is part of a large international consortium that coordinates the sequencing, genome assembly and annotation of this important crop. You will work closely with collaborators at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) and The James Hutton Institute to evaluate, develop and adapt sequence assembly algorithms, to align multiple sequence data sets and to integrate different genomic data resources into the genome sequence assembly. You will also oversee the preparation of sequence data and sequence assemblies for submission to public databases, coordinating this work with other collaborators in the consortium. Ideally you will have a PhD in Bioinformatics and a strong background in data modelling and programming with a particular emphasis in assemblies and annotation software packages. Experience in the analysis of crop genomic data is essential. Familiarity with statistical methods would be beneficial. This is a 36 month position.
