If you want to spot a liar, don't bother with a polygraph. They are notoriously unreliable. In a competition to find the world's most inappropriately named technology, the lie detector would be hard to beat.Yet lie detectors are still relied upon to a frightening extent. Law enforcement agencies in the US, Canada, Israel and elsewhere use them routinely in investigations, even though evidence based on lie detectors is usually inadmissible in court.
