Freeze on flu

Controversial flu research is on hold, for now. The world's top flu virologists have agreed to suspend work on experiments that could cause the H5N1 bird flu virus to spread more easily. Meanwhile, virologists will meet security experts next month at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, to try to resolve a stalemate involving publication of the original experiments that enabled the virus to spread readily among ferrets.
