Ebola is out of Africa. A nurse in Madrid has caught the virus, after helping treat two Spanish priests who were flown home after contracting Ebola in Sierra Leone and Liberia. She is the first person to be infected outside Africa, and had reportedly followed biosecurity protocol, raising questions about the preparedness of hospitals in rich countries. Her colleagues have told the Spanish newspaper El Pais that their protective suits did not meet World Health Organization requirements as their latex gloves were patched with tape. The woman might have spread the virus before being hospitalised; 30 people she was in contact with after symptoms appeared are being traced.
