It's lightning like you've never seen it before: streamed, 24/7, from space. On 19 November, the US's most advanced weather satellite yet was launched. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration packed the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-R with instruments that will improve weather forecasting across the US. Its charged particle detectors will also measure space weather caused by the sun.
