Risk Management for Art Collections and Archives

This paper provides an overview of issues around the authenticity of artworks and objects and their related archives, in the context of an organization's art collection. Due to the high prices and cultural importance of significant objects and documents, it is important to manage risk. The digital age has led to a public keen on gaining virtual access to information, thus while a corporate collection indicates corporate social responsibility, it involves cultural memory and demonstrates public spending which calls for accountability, compliance with regulations and responsible management of the collection. What are the risks and how should these be managed?
