NTL provides clues on Flextech destiny

NTL, the UK cable operator, signalled this week that it expects competition authorities to investigate any potential approach that BSkyB might make to acquire multichannel broadcaster Flextech. Simon Duffy, chief executive of NTL, offered what some might interpret as oblique pointers on the future of Flextech, given that NTL is expected to be the leading partner in a widely-anticipated merger with its owner, fellow cable operator Telcwest. NTL is reported to be keen for Telewest to divest Flextech, and to harbour preferences on to whom it should be sold. BSkyB chief executive James Murdoch said of Flextech last week: "We would look at it but I wouldn't comment on market speculation."
