French pay-TV is missing out on PVRs - report

France's pay-television operators are failing to take full advantage of personal video recorders (PVRs), according to a report by the country's television regulator. The Conseil Superieur de l'Audiovisuel said that there are now 1.5 million PVRs deployed in the French market, but only 250,000 of these are from pay-television operators, led by Canal Plus and TPS. Between 100,000 and 130,000 subscribers to Canal Plus's Canalsat service take its Pilotime PVRs, while the rival TPS platform (which is merging with Canalsatellite) said that it had deployed between 60,000 and 70,000 of its Platinium recorders. Cable operator Numericable accounts for the majority of the remaining pay-television PVRs.
