Pay-TV on DTT leads new challenge to BSkyB

The UK's multichannel television landscape will experience "monumental change" over the next six months as new services, technologies and channels threaten to disrupt the status quo, according to financial services group Citigroup. The heightened competitiveness is poised to increase margin pressure at BSkyB and further erode ITV's share of advertising revenues, said Citigroup. The report cites four key areas of change that could challenge BSkyB: the debut of a premium sports pay channel on digital-terrestrial television, the arrival of a Freeview-branded personal video recorder (PVR), the relaunch of cable under the Virgin brand, and the launch of BT's hybrid digital-terrestrial and IPTV platform.
