Freeview could be hit by demands for royalty payments as DVB warns of patent liability

Freeview broadcasters and set-top box manufacturers could find themselves exposed to damaging royalty payments for using the MHEG-5 interactive-television system. The Digital Video Broadcasting Project (DVB), Europe's digital-television standards body, has ruled out using MHEG-5 as a substitute for parts of its Multimedia Home Platform (MHP) system because of the possible royalties.
