UK faces fight to stop extension of TWF rules

The UK government faces an uphill battle to prevent the extension of European television regulations to include non-linear and new-media services as well as traditional broadcast channels. The UK is the only major European member state to oppose bringing new services into the regulatory framework of the Television Without Frontiers (TWF) directive. This would impose some of the existing television rules on non-broadcast services such as video-on-demand (VOD) (NMM June 9, 2006).
