Reding reinforces calls for European spectrum agency

Viviane Reding, the European commissioner for information society and media, last week called for the creation of a single European spectrum agency to enable frequencies for telecommunications services to be traded on a pan-European basis. Launching a consultation on how the European framework for electronic communications could be updated, Reding argued that Europe was at a competitive disadvantage against the USA because it had 25 separate regimes for spectrum management rather than a single one.
