Ofcom sticks with PSP despite dwindling support

UK communications regulator Ofcom this week pledged to further develop proposals for its "public service publisher" despite doubts within industry over the project's viability. Ofcom devised the public service publisher (PSP) as a £300-million fund to offset the declining public-service programming output of broadcasters such as ITV (NMM October 8, 2004). Ed Richards, Ofcom's chief operating officer, this week told New Media Markets that the project was still on the agenda. "We will be doing work on it this year, alongside further thinking about a post-switchover settlement for public service broadcasting," said Richards.
