Chellomedia, the content division of Liberty Global, has acquired three new channels in central and eastern Europe to strengthen its position in the region. It gained regulatory approval in Hungary to buy two lifestyle channels, DIY service TV Deko and cooking channel TV Paprika, and movie channel Filmmuzeum, all of which were owned by local investors. The company now operates seven channels in the region: Sport 1, Sport 2, children's channel Minimax and the MGM channel (a joint venture with the Hollywood film studio). Chello Central Europe's plan is to emulate its Multicanal thematic-channel business in Spain, which has eight channels. Chello also owns the ZoneMedia channels, which were first launched in central and eastern Europe.
