The mobile telephone industry continues to seek an application that will change the way consumers user their phones and generate significant new revenues through data services. Stephen Nuttall, BSkyB's director of business development, asks: Is mobile TV the "killer application" that we have been looking for? With the right combination of content, access, price, branding and marketing, there is good cause to believe that mobile TV will become as integral a part of the TV landscape as many have predicted. It's already evident that mobile TV has quickly become the biggest driver of video usage on the 3G networks. Furthermore, we know that every other Vodafone 3G handset that leaves Vodafone s retail stores is able to access Sky Mobile TV. Sky's early experience in delivering mobile TV provides some useful lessons for the future. In working with the likes of Vodafone UK, Vodafone Ireland, Orange and - soon - 3UK, we've firmly established Sky Mobile TV as a European leader, with paying customers now running well into six figures.
