Bluewin TV, the IPTV service from Switzerland's incumbent telecommunications operator Swisscom, has attracted more than 20,000 customers since its launch in November. However, the "extreme demand" which "greatly exceeded" its original target, has already forced the company to admit that new customers face a wait of up to six weeks before they can be hooked up to the service. Swisscom said that it was looking to reduce the lead time to between three and four weeks. Bluewin TV was scheduled to launch in late 2004 but was delayed repeatedly with Swisscom citing teething problems with Microsoft's IPTV technology (NMMJune 10, 2005). Yet it appears that the lengthy delays have not deterred consumer interest, with Swisscom struggling to meet demand. Of the 20,000 customers processed, only half have had the service installed, with new installations running at around 1,500 per week.
