US audiovisual content must be made available more quickly to UK consumers in order to fight piracy and promote legitimate means to access programmes, a consumer research company said this week. Essential Research's VOD: State of Play report, which polled 40 people in 17 households, found that only a minority accessed illegal download sites when they could not find the content they wanted. These "broadcast assassins", as the report calls them, typically access video-on-demand frequently and are prepared to hunt around for the programmes they want, according to Stuart Knapman, a partner at Essential Research.
