Five, the UK commercial broadcaster, was poised to become a partner in the BBC's planned Open iPlayer "federation" before the proposal was unexpectedly rejected by the BBC Trust this week.rnThe broadcaster was also exploring replacing its Demand Five online-video portal with the BBC's iPlayer technology. The BBC's Open iPlayer proposals, previously known as Project Marquee, envisaged that the Corporation would license the technology of its popular iPlayer online-video platform to third parties.
