Multichannel film viewing rises sharply

The viewing of films watched on UK multichannel television in 2008 rose significantly, according to data released last week by the UK Film Council.rnMultichannel film audiences increased by 51% compared with 2007, according to the government-backed agency's Statistical Yearbook 09.rnThere were 1.2 billion individual view-ings of films on multichannel television in 2008, says the report, compared with 796 million in 2007 and 722 million in 2006. Overall film viewing, which had declined every year since 2003, rose from 3,113 million 3,497 million (see fig. 1).
