New materials developed by SABIC Innovative Plastics were incorporated into the new Opel Insignia, which replaces the Vectra, and premiered at the 2008 British International Motor Show. To improve the appearance of the fuel filler door and help keep the aerodynamic shape of the newly designed body, SABIC's Xenoy HMD resin was selected. This material combines a high modulus with a low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) for enhanced dimensional stability in hot temperatures, in addition to a reduced tendency to absorb moisture, compared to polyamide (which had previously been used to secure the seal of the door but which ruined the aerodynamic body line the designers were trying to achieve).
