WSP leads race to take over Parsons Brinckerhoff

WSP was this week being hotly tipped to buy Parsons Brinckerhoff from Balfour Beatty. The business, which has been up for sale since the spring, had found itself at the centre of the spat between Carillion and Balfour Beatty over a proposed merger between the two rivals. The collapse of the merger plan has cleared the way for the conclusion of the Parsons Brinckerhoff sale, with Canadian-headquartered WSP now in pole position. It is understood that WSP, Atkins and two venture capital firms are in the running. WSP indicated in its first half results earlier this month that future acquisitions were part of its growth plans.
