WSP takes the lead on securing Parsons Brinckerhoff takeover

Consultant WSP is in pole position to buy Parsons Brinckerhoff from Balfour Beatty in a £700m deal that would create a combined business with £2.8bn in revenue, it emerged this week. Balfour Beatty is in advanced talks to sell the US-based design consultant Parsons Brinckerhoff, with at least four bidders expressing interest in the firm. However, according to reports this week, WSP has edged ahead of rival bidders, understood to include Atkins, with the Canadian-based consultant close to agreeing a £700m deal with Balfour for Parsons. A statement confirming the talks was expected as Building went to press on Wednesday (20 August). If WSP acquires Parsons Brinckerhoff it will create a combined business with 31,500 staff and £2.8bn of revenue.
