Delay payments to train firms cost Network Rail $153M

Network Rail shelled out more than $161.7M to train operating companies for delays it caused to their services in its last financial year, it has emerged. The track operator's website published data showing that it paid $161M more than it received through Schedule 8 compensation in 2014/15. Schedule 8 payments are made between Network Rail and the companies running trains on its tracks, when one party has to compensate the other for causing delays affecting business.
