Ray O'Rourke challenges rivals to win in Australia

Ray O'Rourke has challenged British civils contractors to win work in Australia's booming infrastructure market to prove they are ready to compete on the world stage. The founder and chairman of Dartford-headquartered Laing O'Rourke, which now does 40% of its business from its Australian hub, laid down the gauntlet to his competitors this week. Australia is expected to investment of $109bn in infrastructure over the next five years after the country elected self-styled "infrastructure prime minister" Tony Abbott last year. O'Rourke was joined by senior members of banking giant HSBC and UK Trade & Investment in setting out the opportunities to UK firms last month.
