摘要

The papers in this special issue are selected from the papers presented at the Lattice Computing and Natural Computing track of the Joint Conferences on Information Sciences, JCIS 2007, held in July 2007 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The main theme of the track was the paradigm of Lattice Computing, which can be defined as the collection of Computational Intelligence tools and techniques that either make use of lattice operators inf and sup for the construction of the computational algorithms or exploit Lattice Theory for knowledge representation and reasoning. There have been a historical track of efforts to develop Lattice Computing algorithms and solutions in fields that range from Operations Research up to Image and Signal Processing, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications of this algorithm building philosophy. The main appeal of this approach is its inherent nonlinearity, while its main drawback is the difficulty to formalize adaptive algorithms.
