The founding members of ASNE created the Journal of the American Society of Naval Engineers (JASNE) to give "...the officers of our Navy a practical naval engineering extension course" that provided "...absolutely reliable information concerning engineering progress and advance." The Secretary-Treasurer served as the editor of the Journal and produced four issues each year (February, May, August, and November). Between 1914 and 1939, 356 ASNE members authored 772 original articles totaling 16,246 pages. To keep ASNE members aware of the full scope of advances in naval engineering the editor also included "Notes" in each issue of the journal - reprints of articles of interest from other sources. Between 1914-1939, there were 777 Notes totaling 4,602 pages; 223 Notes (29%) were from the English publications Engineering, Shipbuilding & Shipping Record, and The Engineer. Other sources for the Notes included Scientific American, Journal of the Franklin Institute, ASME journal, and Aerial Age Weekly.
