Cruiser Helena (CL-50): A Ship Model and Memories of a Brave Ship's Crew

Recently, I had the need to go through my old ship model restoration files. As I did so, I came across the records for a model of the World War II cruiser Helena (CL-50). Back in 1987 my wife and I, as restorers, were given the task of putting the model (Figure 1) in shape for a very special event: it was to be presented to the mayor of Helena, Montana, at the commissioning of the Navy's then latest submarine, Helena (SSN-725).
