Science-based security under threat

During the past year, scientists and the whole scientific environment at Los Alamos National Laboratory have suffered a series of staggering blows at the hands of the US Congress and the Department of Energy. Following the accusations of espionage against one of its weapons scientists, Wen Ho Lee, a US citizen of Taiwanese descent, the entire community of scientists at Los Alamos has experienced a series of restrictive measures that have seriously interfered with their ability to provide the kind of science-based security that has made the laboratory a national treasure during its 57 years of existence.
