Stem cells: the next big cure?

With stem cells showing increasing potential in applications including cell therapy and treatment of degenerative diseases, companies are entering the market and expanding the range of stem cells available for research. Sources of stem cells include bone marrow and umbilical cord blood, used to regenerate cells for neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. In this review, we look at commercially available stem cells and the latest technologies used for stem cell expansion and research.
