The Wellcome Trust was established on Henry Wellcome's death in 1936 with a mission to foster and promote research with the aim of improving human and animal health. A significant - and growing - proportion of our annual grant support of over ￡500 million goes to fund global health research and our strong focus on Henry Wellcome's interests in tropical medicine and public health has been maintained and strengthened. In 2006, we spent ￡69 million on health research in developing and restructuring countries.
