Beyond the body

Superhuman, a provoking and discomfiting exhibition at the Wellcome Collection in London, projects equal parts Clark Kent and Superman. An exploration of human enhancement, it starts with early-nineteenth-century tortoiseshell spectacles and an ancient bronze Icarus to remind us that the concept is neither inherently high-tech nor particularly new.
