A stirring in the woods

Australopithecus sediba is a two-million-year-old hominin from South Africa, related to other Australopithecus and early Homo species. Using a combination of stable isotope analysis, dental microwear patterns and analysis of plant microfossils extracted from dental calculus, thos paper shows that A. sediba's diet consisted mostly of tree leaves, fruit and bark, suggesting that the species lived in a woodland rather than in a savanna habitat.
