Fire destroys Brazil's Antarctic outpost

Brazil's scientific community is reeling from a fire that blazed through the country's Comandante Ferraz research station (pictured) in the South Shetland Islands off the Antarctic Peninsula, killing two navy personnel and injuring another. The cause was unknown as Nature went to press, but the Brazilian navy said that the fire began on 25 February and destroyed about 70% of the facility.
