Discovering and developing the medicines to treat today's most serious and complex diseases remains the number one challenge for pharmaceutical companies. While great science is happening in their laboratories, the scale of the challenges means that no one company can address them in isolation. This is why, in the last few years, AstraZeneca has been leading the way in creating a more permeable research ecosystem, where scientists share their ideas more freely, collaborate on projects and drive scientific innovation. In March of this year, AstraZeneca launched its Open Innovation program designed to make it easier for academic scientists across the globe to access its assets and to build the connections that will turn novel ideas into new drug discovery programs and medicines.
