New horizons in development and regeneration

Since its launch in April 2000, the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology (CDB) has emerged as one of the world's leading research institutions in the fields of developmental biology, regeneration, and stem cell research. Established as part of the country's Millennium Project research initiative, the CDB was created under the leadership of director Masatoshi Takeichi to serve as a national centre designed to conduct fundamental research on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying embryo-genesis, within a translational continuum. The key philosophy underpinning the Center's research organisation is to build on insights from an improved understanding of animal biology to build a solid scientific foundation for emerging fields such as regenerative medicine.
