Pisani turn stone into an art form

John Maine, RA, has been advising on the conservation of the Cosmati Pavement in Westminster Abbey. The decorative mosaic medieval floor in front of the High Altar, laid in 1268, contains the words: "The spherical globe here shows the archetypal macrocosm." This inspired the artist to create the new work pictured here for the Royal Academy.
