How can a small conventional air force like Canada's remain relevant in the challenging and dynamic security environment of the 21st Century while achieving decisive effects in pursuit of Canada's national interests? This is a question many nations probably asking themselves. Like many air forces, the Canadian Air Force has evolved from a relatively large, platform-centred air force - the 4th largest in the world in 1945 - to a smaller, focused aerospace power element of an integrated military force.
