Integration of UAV: into the capabilities profile of the Federal Armed Forces

On January 31st, 2007 a milestone on the way to improve the capabilities profile of the Federal Armed Forces was passed. The German Parliament (Bundestag) has decided to develop the Euro Hawk System as the future system for wide area airborne signal intelligence reconnaissance. This system is an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) based upon the U.S. platform Global Hawk, which will be equipped with a German-developed sensor suite. This sensor package will allow reconnaissance of a wide area of the electromagnetic spectrum. Starting in 2010, a UAV of this High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) class will be operated by the Federal Armed Forces.
