After the Second World War, Luxembourg abandoned its long-standing policy of neutrality. As a founding member of the UN, NATO, WEU and the European Coal and Steel Community (later to become the European Community and the EU), Luxembourg's national defence has since been firmly embedded in collective security arrangements within the framework of all these organisations.rnToday, however, the bulk of the Army's international missions are non-Article 5 operations. This strategic shift entails a number of challenges as far as capabilities and capacities are concerned.
