Stress and fracture recovery longer

Stress and fractures keep people out of work longer than other injuries, says the latest ABS data. "More than half (55 per cent) of people who suffered stress or other mental conditions [in 2009-10] were absent from work for five days or more," says the ABS figures in Australian Social Trends, June 2011. "Similarly, 53 per cent of workers who suffered fractures were away from work for five days or more." Other injuries such as cuts and open wounds, and crushing injuries accounted for shorter absences from work in 2009-10.
