Head injury and drug use prove lethal

TYLER JOHN BROOMHALL was a casual factory hand at Harvest Moon, a vegetable processing farm at Forth in Tasmania. The Tasmanian coroner Olivia McTaggart described him as "a fit, young man who [also] played Australian Rules football with the Wilmot Football Club". Broomhall sustained a minor head injury at work in March 2013. However, it didn't come to light until the coronial investigation into his death. The coroner reported that Broomhall was cleaning under machinery when he hit his head, resulting in a lump on his head but no broken skin. He failed to report the incident, saying it was too minor, despite a workmate who witnessed the incident suggesting otherwise. The coroner noted that over the following weeks Broomhall became forgetful, emotional and lethargic, and lost motivation. Despite these symptoms, he failed to seek medical attention. It was also noted that Broomhall was a habitual drug user.
