摘要

Workplace safety is a serious business. The week before the NSCA Foundation's National Safety Conference on 12 October, two Brisbane men had been fatally crushed in an industrial accident and, the day before, a ferry accident at Circular Quay resulted in 19 people being hospitalised. For the more than 100 WHS professionals who gathered for the conference at the Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, both incidents were sobering reminders of the ongoing challenges the industry faces. "There are 500 reasons why we're here today, and tomorrow, for our awards," said Bernie Doyle, president of the NSCA Foundation, as he opened the conference. "That's because 500 is about the number of Australian workers who are killed each year."
