Many NGAUS awards are one-of-a-kind works of art created by a unique artist Meet Andrew Chernak. You may not recognize his name, but you've prob-ably seen his work. It's on display at the National Guard Memorial, the NGAUS headquarters in Washington, D.C. And at the West Point Museum in West Point, N.Y., and the D-Day Museum in New Orleans and the Invasion Museum in Normandy, France. And in plenty of other places. "I enjoy preserving America's history through sculpture and memorializing people and groups that served," says Chernak, owner of Andrew L. Chernak Sculptures Inc., in Springfield, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia. He has done work for NGAUS for more than 25 years, ever since he was introduced to retired Maj. Gen. Bruce Jacobs, the first executive director of the Historical Society of the Militia and National Guard, now the National Guard Educational Foundation (NGEF).
