For the past two years, visitors to the tiny southeastern North Dakota town of Fort Ransom have asked about the walking bridge they've heard so much about. 'And we tell them, 'Well, it's over there, but you can't go on it because it's too dangerous,'" said James Themes, the mayor of Fort Ransom. The footbridge, erected in 1975 by local National Guardsmen, was a major access route for residents on the town's south end. It also was a landmark and focal point in the community.
