Personal Gift: Guardsman Gives Kidney to Stranger

Spc. Brittany Reppond just happened to see a sign on the back of a car regarding a man in need of a kidney transplant. "I've seen stuff like that in the past," she said, "but this time it was like God was calling me to do it." In February, Reppond, a member of the 197th Special Troop Support Battalion, donated a kidney to Arthur Corenblith, 56, an elementary school teacher and the father of two boys, saving his life. The Texas Army National Guardsman first called the number and talked to a family member who told her Corenblith had been on the waiting list for a kidney for four years and was hooked each night to a dialysis machine. Friends and family members were not a match for donation.
