The process of sausage coextrusion has moved from a minor technology to one of the preeminent methods of sausage production. Similarly, Townsend has evolved from a pioneer in the coextrusion technology, with its early Kontura system, to one of the dominant players in the sausage manufacturing market offering several different types of QX systems in five sausage categories. Approximately 90 percent of all coextrusion heads worldwide, including 96 percent in the United States, are Townsend QX systems.rnCoextrusion technology in the sausage industry has been around for about 40 years, but it took the joining of Townsend Engineering and Protecon Langen in 2001 to combine Townsend Engineering's Kontura Continuous Casing and Protecon's HiQ tower technology.
