Inorganic Nanofibers for Novel Separation Membranes

Due to their one-dimensional structures and novel physical properties, nanofibrous materials have been extensively investigated and hold the promising/real applications in various fields, including electronic, optical, semiconductors, sensors, polymer fillers and nonwoven porous membranes. Comprehensive reviews of the spinning processed polymer nanofibrous membranes have been given. In this chapter, we will focus on the solution processed inorganic nanofibrous and their application for constructing separation membranes. Due to their low basis weight, high specific surface area, interconnected porous network structures, relative strong mechanical properties, high heat resistance, and relative solvent stability, these membranes have demonstrated desirable separation performances. Especially, constructing such membranes through filtration process will be promising to scale the laboratory process to industrial scale.
