Hendrik "Rlk" van Hemmen is the president of Martin & Ottaway, a 138-year-old marine consulting firm. He built his first boat when he was six and never stopped. He is a third generation maritime engineer, a licensed profes- sional engineer and a fellow in SNAME and the National Academy of Forensic Engineers. His father was a SNAME member and two of his children are SNAME members. His love of engineering is deeply tied to his interest in the art, science, and psychology of high performance and system efficiencies. He is involved with various SNAME T&R panels and the chair of panel EC-7.
