Firefighting on Ferries

Historically, most fires on ferries and on ships in general are engine room fires. These areas are typically enclosed machinery spaces; suppression and extinguishing of these fires are therefore easier to manage than fires on open deck spaces. In enclosed machinery spaces, even large fires can be managed and extinguished by an efficient fire detection and the release of a total flooding suppression. These typically are based on a CO_2 system supported by a deluge system (water mist, water spray, or foam) as well as portable equipment and fire hoses.
